The Physics Front is a part of a larger collection of resources for physics teachers, primarily at the secondary level. They are broken out by grade level, non-calculus and calculus level physics as well as by subject area. The section on energy, for example is further broken down into sub-categories of content.
comPADRE is a larger collection of resources for the broader physics and astronomy education community. Physics Front is one of the collection included. ComPADRE is the NSDL Pathway for Physics and Astronomy that is headed up by the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT).
Here are some resources from the seminar taken from comPADRE and The Physics Front collections:
STARS & STAR FORMATION
Here is a
star formation movie that shows the progression a star goes through in their lifetime. This movie is from the Hayden Planetarium, American Museum of Natural History.
Try out the
spectrum lab that helps students learn how scientists identify stars based on their spectra.
This
interactive quiz teaches students how to read a Hertzprung-Russell Diagram by asking questions about different star types. Another
interactive allows you to see the relationship of luminosity and temperature by moving the bar at the bottom to look at where different types of stars fall on the diagram.
Here are two movies that showing
ring formation (jupiters) and planets (
planetesimals) around stars.
Finally, one outcome of a star at its death is
supernova, as this movie shows.
OTHER ASTRONOMY RELATED RESOURCES
The Astronomy Center is a separate collection found within comPADRE with a vast array of resources related to astronomy.
The
Hubble Site is a great site with images from the Hubble Telescope, news, educational materials and more for the avid astronomer.
2009 is the
International Year of Astronomy 2009 (U.S Site) with many related events and resources. The
International Year of Astronomy commemorates the 400th anniversary of Galileos use of a telescope to study the skies, and Keplers publication of
Astronomia Nova.
Another resource from The Physics Front is this
interactive planetarium that includes a sky map and a virtual telescope.
