RESOURCES ON WEATHER
Hurricane Applet
Ocean Surface Temperature
This applet helps students understand the changes in ocean temperature over the seasons and how that can influence the formation of a hurricane.
Global Winds
This interactive illustrates the movement of global winds across the Earth. Click on the one relating to Hadley cells, the circular movement of wind rising and falling off of the surface of the Earth known as convection.
There are other visualizations on this site that may be useful for illustrating other earth science phenomena.
Density and Pressure in Weather
This site gives a brief over view on high and low pressure areas and their resulting weather.
Weather Talk
Weather Talk provides more overview information on weather and other weather phenomena.
Interactive Weather Maker
This site by Scholastic provides interactive activities on weather for younger students.
Digital Library for Earth System Education: Teaching Boxes
This is a full unit on weather off of the Digital Library of Earth System Education (DLESE) site. It was developed by teachers and is linked to national standards. It contains lesson plans and links to resources within DLESE for a full unit on weather.
