Aloha! A greeting of welcome from the land where palm trees sway. Hawaii, often referred to as paradise, beckons all to come participate in its splendor. As a group, you will design a vacation fit for a family of 4 in this paradise. The family consists of a father, a mother, and twin teenagers (girl and boy).
Task
After researching the assigned region you will be put in a family of 4 and assigned to plan the family vacation. The region's language, climate, geographic features, economy, culture, recreational activities, and heritage, will need to be explored. The interest of each family member will be incorporated in the vacation, in order for everyone to have a worthwhile time. Ask yourself the following questions:
1. How much money will the vacation cost?
2. How much spending money will each family member need to bring?
3. Where will the family stay?
4. What will be appropriate for each family member to pack?
5. What will the agenda be for each day?
Process
Steps for completing this assignment are as follows:
1. You will be grouped into teams of four. You will study and research the region's language, climate, geographic features, economy, culture, recreational activities, and heritage. Collect as much data about these areas as possible.
2. Each person in the group will be assigned a character or role in the family. He/She will need to plan out the perfect 10-day vacation according to your role.
3. Characters or roles are as follows:
-Father (Likes to be outdoors. Likes to golf, sail, and hike.)
-Mother (Likes relaxing. Likes to read, snorkel, and go on leisure walks.)
-Twin Son (Likes adventure. Likes to jump off stuff, swim, and explore.)
-Twin Daughter (Likes to shop. Likes to find interesting souvenirs, lay out in the sun, and visit interesting places.)
4. Make a list of 10 things your character would like to do and rank them starting with 1 as the least and 10 as the most enjoyable for your character.
5. Your group should meet to discuss the activities you have chosen for your family member. Come up with a family schedule from the activities. You will probably need to compromise on some of the things that you decide on.
6. Create a family presentation showing the schedule process, how it came about and what were some of the activities that were compromised. Give a report on how the vacation went and what you learned. You may be creative on how you give your presentation, but everyone on the team must have a part.
