First, we need to review a couple of ideas.

1) What is area?

2) What is a rectangle?


Now, what would it mean to find the area of the whiteboard at the front of our classroom? (It happens to be a rectangle.)



In the link below you will be shown a grid. You must click on the numbers that could be the width and length of a rectangle. Hit the "=" button in the top right corner of the grid to see the area. Repeat the process until you think you see how to calculate the area of a rectangle of any size.
